Eight local AEC organizations team up for summer intern partnership program

The AEC Intern Partnership program in Kansas City, established in 2017 by BHC, is now in its sixth year. This program offers a unique summer internship experience for students interested in architecture, engineering, and construction. It provides an opportunity for interns to gain insights into the industry and work alongside professionals from eight different organizations in the Kansas City area, including Hoefer Welker.

The other partnering firms include BSE Structural Engineers LLC, the City of Lenexa, Clarkson Construction Co., MMC Contractors Inc., Smith & Boucher Inc., Turner Construction Co., and BHC. Throughout the program, interns have the chance to learn about various aspects of the industry and collaborate with different entities.

The program aims to expose young talent to the challenges of the industry and foster their understanding of the region's development. It has proven to be successful, with a total of 179 interns participating since its inception, including 26 from BHC. Trevor Splichal, a lead design engineer at BHC, was part of the first cohort of interns in 2017 and found the experience valuable in gaining industry knowledge and understanding project collaboration.
