The City of Chillicothe is taking a major step forward by replacing its outdated police station with a modern facility tailored to the needs of today’s law enforcement. Over the years, the current building has served various roles, from being a doctor’s office to sharing space with the Livingston County sheriff’s office. However, it no longer meets the requirements of effective, contemporary policing.
Despite efforts to make minor upgrades, the building’s undersized and inefficient spaces have created challenges for the police department’s operations. The city enlisted Hoefer Welker to perform an extensive facility assessment to address these issues. After careful evaluation, our team determined that remodeling the existing structure was impractical and recommended building a brand-new headquarters.
The future Chillicothe Police Department headquarters will be a cutting-edge 11,558-square-foot facility, equipped with features that elevate both functionality and efficiency. Key highlights include:
- A spacious training room for officer development and community events
- Modern, high-tech interrogation rooms
- An exercise room to support officer fitness and wellness
- Secure evidence processing and storage areas to maintain chain of custody
- Dedicated holding areas for temporary detainees
- A 911 dispatch center with advanced communication systems
This purpose-built headquarters will enhance the department’s current capabilities and position Chillicothe to tackle future law enforcement challenges. The well-designed space will provide the city’s full-time officers with a supportive, efficient environment to better serve and protect the community.
This new police headquarters represents a significant investment in Chillicothe’s public safety infrastructure. It ensures the police department will have the resources and facilities needed to meet the community's growing needs for years to come.
