The City of Mexico, Missouri, was honored with the American Planning Association (APA) Missouri Chapter 2015 Outstanding Plan Award at the APA Quad States Conference in October. The plan provides the City with a working guide that empowers the community to actively pursue initiatives to accomplish long-term community goals.
“Cities across the country are facing infrastructure, facility and political challenges,” noted Bruce Slagle, City Manager of Mexico. “The challenges we have ahead are many, demanding and most certainly will be trying.
To meet these challenges, we must grow our economy, create better jobs and deliver services in new, creative and collaborative ways. During the development of our City’s Comprehensive Plan we received priceless input and insights from citizens. The City of Mexico’s future success will ultimately be achieved through on-going communication, cooperation and a long-term commitment towards a successful and sustainable community plan.”
“The plan represents a beginning – success will ultimately be achieved through continued communication, cooperation and long-term commitment by the Mexico community in moving towards sustainable community building efforts,” commented Brian Hamilton, AICP, Hoefer Welker Architecture’s Director of Urban Design & Planning and the plan’s Project Manager. The collaborative consulting team included Dr. Troy L. Nash, HDFP, Vice President, Principal at Newmark Grubb Zimmer; and John Forrester, PE of Olsson Associates.
