Designs aren’t simply ideas and lines, and buildings are greater than bricks and mortar. From concept to completion, each project has its own needs and considerations. It’s why listening is just as important as drawing and why communication leads to inspired creation. Our Civic Studio exemplifies this passion through thorough planning, thoughtful design, and being a resource and partner to clients.
Our Civic Studio began in the Kansas City metro and, indeed, has designed nearly 50 projects in the area. Work quickly spread nationwide for all types of civic clients and projects. Most of our clients have never had to evaluate and, ultimately, design a civic building. We want to be a partner and resource that can help solve problems and stay on budget.

Most of Hoefer Welker’s civic team have worked together for more than a decade. They’ve honed their expertise and developed a rhythm that lets them work seamlessly to bring brilliant, yet fundable, solutions to projects.
“I like sharing the experience I’ve gained over 20 years with our clients. It’s a way to give back.”

“It’s such an amazing feeling, as an architect, to see the clients’ pride as they see the first renderings. Then to walk them through the space during construction and see their excitement. It’s not about money. It’s about designing a space that will affect someone’s life for the long term. We’re designing something that’s going to be their home away from home.”
Nick Lawler
Project Manager | Vice President
“One of my career goals has been to work on civic projects. These buildings don’t just impact the community; they impact the people who serve the community. If I can make their lives a little better with better design solutions, that’s a lifelong calling.”
Dominic Spadafore
Project Manager | Associate Vice President
“The people who serve their community deserve the best work environment possible. To be able to aid those civic servants in creating a building they can be proud of is the least I can do to thank them for all they do.”
Katherine Waldrop
Project Architect | Associate Vice President
“I take immense pride in working on civic projects, especially with first responders. These individuals put their lives on the line every day. It’s my goal to help them design a building that lets them be more efficient and enjoy their time there. Then, when duty calls, they can concentrate on what’s important.”
Chris Krumrei
Project Architect | Associate Vice President
We know nothing’s more valuable than lessons learned, and our years of experience allow us to better understand client needs and culture—then relentlessly infuse that passion and energy into every detail. Our Civic Studio is motivated by sharing these experiences so our clients can make informed, long-term decisions. It’s the difference between simply engaging an architectural firm and gaining a trusted partner.
