Baptist Medical Center takes step toward Southbank expansion

Baptist Medical Center is moving forward with a significant expansion of its emergency department on the Southbank in Jacksonville. Designed by Hoefer Welker, the project will include a 110,000-square-foot addition and renovations to the existing emergency services building. The new structure will be four stories tall, with a 20-foot utility penthouse, and feature a modern glass facade with red accents.

The expansion will add 123,000 square feet to the facility, including 100 emergency treatment rooms (63 for adults and 37 for children), pediatric trauma rooms, imaging, labs, and an endoscopy suite. Additional inpatient rooms and expanded heart care areas will be completed in later phases. Construction begins this year, with a phased opening and a target completion date of 2029. The ERs will remain operational throughout the project.
