Originally based in San Francisco, SelectQuote Insurance Services entered the Kansas City area in 2010 and quickly grew to more than 650 employees. Specializing in home, auto and Medicare lines of insurance services, SelectQuote outgrew its original location. In 2017, they opted to move into a uniquely renovated and expanded space at Overland Park Xchange, an adaptive reuse of a former conference center.
SelectQuote sought to provide its employees with a more connected, engaging space with room to grow. They wanted to offer their employees top-tier amenities that matched their culture’s energy and enthusiasm in an open and visually connected office environment.

The interior design embraces the SelectQuote brand, which centers on providing exceptional customer service in a fun and bold environment. Highly productive spaces are balanced with areas for employees to recharge. A vibrant color palette is balanced with natural materials, including reclaimed wood for doors, walls, and ceilings.
Named as one of Kansas City Business Journal’s Best Places to Work in 2017, the perks and amenities at SelectQuote are plentiful. The employee-centric office design features several amenities, including outdoor break areas, game and media rooms, a coffee bar, and a grandstand staircase for large-group meetings and informal conversations.
The building provided large, mostly column-free, floorplates that provided tremendous efficiencies and adjacencies for the space planning. The existing building was retrofitted with a large glass façade glass and tall ceiling to allow for an open, modern office flooded with daylight.
As the company continued to grow, so too did its need for space. A flexible and forward-thinking design allowed the original phase of an 80,000 sq. ft. office increase to increase to 186,446 sq. ft over 4 phases. Since moving into its new headquarters in 2017, SelectQuote reports increased retention and attraction of new talent, which are integral to its aggressive growth strategy.
When I think of working with the HW design team, I was really impressed by the way they took what we said and brought us back ideas and colors that fit the concept for which we were looking. The color scheme is by far my favorite, and I feel it brings a lot of life to our office. The openness of the office brings people together more. I believe this definitely helped in our recruiting efforts as well as retention. A fun, warm, inviting space was created, and that is what people like.
