The Outpatient Revolution: Why Demand for Flexible Facilities Continues to Grow

Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley, Iowa has hired Hoefer Welker Architecture to evaluate their existing facility and make recommendations for construction and/or renovation projects that would result in the long-term viability of the facility in providing healthcare services for northwest Iowa. The existing facility has a number of physical limitations that are not conducive to patient privacy. Also, the lack of flexibility in the original design of the hospital and the change in healthcare delivery methods has increasingly become an obstacle to staff efficiencies and patient centered care. The design options being proposed will lead to increased staffing efficiencies, optimized reimbursement and patient centered care. The expansion of each department was considered within the constraints of the existing site, keeping the adjacency to the existing long term care facilities for a full campus of healthcare services.
