AdventHealth is a mission-driven care system that focuses on whole-person health and the well-being of the communities it serves. Located in the Asheville metro area of southwest North Carolina, Hendersonville has experienced rapid growth in recent decades. To meet the community’s expanding healthcare needs, Hoefer Welker partnered with AdventHealth to design and develop a three-story, 66,000 SF medical office building on an 11-acre site in Hendersonville.

The medical office building features an outpatient surgery center on the first floor, with physician offices and clinic spaces on the two upper floors. Site improvements, including landscaping, a new parking lot, and a new hospital access road, were completed as part of the project.

As a community hospital, it was essential to AdventHealth that the new MOB integrate seamlessly into the local context. The exterior building materials were carefully selected to complement the existing hospital. Brick and stone accents reflect the hospital’s materiality, while these traditional finishes lend the building a warm, comfortable, and local character. The completed MOB fits cohesively within the hospital’s campus.

The outpatient surgery center was designed to accommodate multiple specialties, with six procedure rooms, a clean and sterile core, 18 pre-op and recovery bays, a nurse station and associated support spaces, a staff lounge and locker rooms, workrooms, consultation rooms, and central sterile processing. As part of the broader master plan, the site was planned to allow for an additional medical office building to serve the future needs of Hendersonville and the surrounding area.
