The University of Kansas Cancer Center has broken ground on a transformative new complex that will unite research and patient care under one roof for the first time in its history. Located in Kansas City, the facility will foster real-time collaboration between researchers, clinicians, and patients, accelerating the development of personalized treatments and groundbreaking therapies.
With HDR, Design and Architecture of Record, and Hoefer Welker as the owner's Executive Architect, the complex will feature a state-of-the-art cellular therapeutics GMP laboratory to expedite CAR T-cell therapy, a cutting-edge cancer treatment. This initiative builds on the center's 2022 designation as a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute, the highest recognition in the field.
Funded by a $100 million lead gift from the Sunderland Foundation, along with federal, state, and private contributions, the project represents a bold step forward in cancer care and research, aiming to create a global destination for innovation and hope.
