Grain Valley Police HQ: Building a high-end facility with value-engineering practices

Written by Elaina Jones | March 31, 2025

Grain Valley's new 21,000-square-foot Police Headquarters was designed to address the city's rapid growth and the police department's expanding needs. Built by McCownGordon Construction in collaboration with Hoefer Welker, the facility includes secure holding cells, evidence processing areas, a fitness center, locker rooms, quiet rooms, conference rooms, and a community room for public use. It also features future-ready elements like solar panel rough-ins and electric car charging conduits.

The project faced challenges such as budget constraints, site conditions (an old trailer park), and FAA height restrictions due to a nearby airport. These were mitigated through value-engineering practices, including cost-effective material choices and innovative construction methods. The facility aims to enhance police recruitment, retention, and community safety while being a long-term asset for the growing city.
