The sixth location for the legendary Kansas City restaurant group, Jack Stack Barbecue in Lenexa, Kansas, took over the space of a previous restaurant that Hoefer Welker designed. Jack Stack saw the location as an excellent opportunity for one of their signature barbecue restaurants.
Due to Jack Stack’s higher demand for kitchen use than the previous tenant, Hoefer Welker needed to expand the building to incorporate three smokers and a larger kitchen footprint. The interior design included the unique, high-end finishes that Jack Stack utilizes in all its locations with the added elements of Lenexa’s history. The space also carries features designed by local artists to contribute to an unforgettable experience for diners.
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, Jack Stack’s carryout and catering business exploded. As the space was formerly a standard standalone restaurant, Hoefer Welker designed an area with a separate entrance to accommodate the catering and carryout business. An additional lobby was included on the back side of the building with the new carryout entrance. The outdoor patio features a large stone fireplace where guests can warm up with a drink any time of year at tables or the outdoor bar.
