After more than fifty years in its Kansas City headquarters, Fidelity Security Life was ready for a workplace that could support the company's next chapter while keeping it connected to its past. Leadership wanted the new headquarters to feel open and contemporary without feeling anonymous. The company's history, family ownership and close working relationships still needed to show in how the workplace functioned and felt.
Hoefer Welker translated that goal into a workplace built around connection rather than hierarchy. Shared lounges, work cafés and informal gathering areas give employees and leadership places to cross paths naturally. Focus rooms and more private settings support the concentration and confidentiality the business requires. Warm wood, natural stone and residentially scaled furnishings soften the formality of the workplace, with fireplaces anchoring several of its gathering spaces.
The company's history becomes most visible around the headquarters' main arrival and executive spaces. A museum dedicated to Fidelity Security Life's story is woven into the training, reception and executive areas rather than set apart on its own. An open stair connects those spaces across two floors, letting visitors and employees move directly from the main reception level into the museum and leadership environments above. Pieces from the former headquarters, including a wood mantel and burl paneling, were brought into the new space as well.
Fidelity Security Life was not simply replacing an aging workplace. After decades in the same home, the company had to decide what should come with it and what needed to change. The new headquarters makes that transition visible.
