The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Corpus Christi Outpatient Clinic in Texas has been recognized for its excellence in safety by Engineering News-Record. The project, completed by Jacobsen Construction Co. teamed up with our design team, achieved a rate of zero for both its OSHA recordable incident rate and lost-time accident rate. With nearly 18,800 work hours and up to 300 people on-site at a given time, the success was attributed to a strong safety culture and ongoing training. The project also implemented safety measures during the COVID-19 pandemic, including social distancing and mask-wearing. Additionally, the clinic features a Wall of Honor where workers placed photos of their family members and friends who served in the military. The project faced challenges in installing various building systems, but the use of BIM (Building Information Modeling) helped ensure reliability.
